A native of Emporia, Virginia, Reverend Patricia Chandler Johnson is the sixth of eight children born to the Rev. and Mrs. Douglas and Rosa Chandler, Sr. Patricia accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of her life when she was a child and was groomed from a young age to know the Master and grow in service to Him. A long-time member of the Baltimore Baptist Church of Emporia, Patricia served on the usher board, various choirs and in numerous other capacities.
After graduating from Emporia’s Greensville County High School, she attended Norfolk State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration. She relocated to Maryland in 1990 where she earned her master’s in public financial management from the University of Maryland.
With her surroundings so far from home, Sister Johnson sought God’s will and prayed that he would guide her with another church home. He answered her prayers and she soon joined the New Mount Nebo Baptist Church of Capitol Heights, Maryland. Prolific in her efforts to serve the Lord, she was appointed president of the Computer Club. God showed her how to use this organization to assist all the auxiliaries in the church as well as create New Mount Nebo’s first newsletter. The Lord also answered her prayers of another sort, for Sister Johnson met her husband, Rev. Robert R. Johnson Jr., at New Mount Nebo. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Bobbi Denise Johnson.
Sister Johnson worked as the Sales and Marketing Director of Chesapeake Custom Homes for seven years before responding to her call into ministry. On June 21, 2008, Patricia preached her initial sermon, “The Master’s Plan,” at the New Mount Nebo Baptist Church. Trusting the Lord to provide all her needs, she resigned from her former position to devote more of her time and attention to God, her family and her career as a real estate broker. June 25, 2016, Reverend Patricia Chandler Johnson was ordained to lead the women’s ministry of her church. She currently serves as an associate minister of the New Mount Nebo Baptist Church under the leadership of her husband and pastor, Rev. Robert R. Johnson Jr. and senior pastor, Rev. Robert R. Johnson, Sr.
Rev. Johnson is a woman of God whose daily goal is to seek the Master’s will for her life. Sister Johnson draws all her hope, strength, growth and power from the “only one who is able to keep us from falling…(Jude 1:24)!”
